Our One Million SEO Strategy, 7 Brands

Over the last 12-14 months, we worked consistently on a strong SEO strategy for 7 different brands. The result, $1m + in organic traffic revenue and website traffic (collectively). Here is the strategy behind how we did it.

Our $1M Global SEO Strategy

SEO Strategy

As a small team of search engine nerds, we are so excited to be writing this case study.

In 2022, we started working with 7 different eCommerce brands within 7 different industries with monthly SEO management. After 14 months of working together, we have collectively helped these 7 brands generate over $1 million dollars in organic traffic revenue and over 1 million website visitors. We want to break down how we were able to achieve this so that you understand the power of a strong SEO strategy and the results it can yield with a strong strategy.

*We do not have permission to share the brand’s names but we do have permission to share Google analytics and eCommerce sales. Brand names will be blurred or blocked out. If you want to see SEO Case studies of brands that do give us the permission to share their name, please visit our SEO Case studies page.

The Challenge

7 different brand owners of ecommerce brands reached out to The Marketing Prophet for SEO services from January 2022-March 2022. Their main challenge? Quality website traffic, content strategy, and conversion from organic search traffic channels in particular.

All brands, including these 7, all go through a strategic process of building an SEO strategy catered to individual business goals.

The Strategy

SEO Strategy

Take a look at the graph above to understand the starting point of each brand as well as their industry. These are the starting general stats of each brand. We also collect other metrics such as customer acquisition cost, conversion rate, customer life time value, and average dollar sale. As you can see, each brand comes from many industry backgrounds and starting points.

However, our Global SEO Strategy stays the same for each brand. Here’s a breakdown the strategy behind how we were able to help these 7 brands collectively generate over $1m in revenue and traffic from organic results (Google). Keep in mind, these were our retainer clients. Each brand spent at least 12 months with us to achieve this results within our SEO Retainer service.

SEO Website Audit

Before we can diagnose anything and create a successful SEO Strategy, all brands received a full SEO website audit. We break our SEO Audit into 8 parts and deliver them as a video presentation through Canva. The 8 parts of our SEO audit findings are

  • Consumer Analysis + Search Intent
  • Keyword Research
  • Competitor Analysis
  • Content Strategy
  • Linking Strategy
  • Technical SEO
  • Global and Local SEO
  • Conversion Rate Optimization

The report goes over all findings and how we plan to implement any changes on the brand’s site.

Consumer Analysis + Search Intent

The next step in our SEO process for our $1M SEO Strategy is to dive into consumer analysis and search intent. We spent time with each brand to understand who their target consumers are and how they conduct search. We take it one step further to determine the search intent behind their searches to make sure we build a strategy around all 4 types of search intent.

We also like to take this time to ask each brand owner what keyword would they dream to rank #1 for that they feel their target audience is typing into Google. Even if it’s a highly search and highly competitive keyword, we build a long term strategy towards reaching that goal.

Keyword Research

Our keyword research process is tedious and takes 7-10 days. Each brand went through an indepth keyword research to understand how their target audience conducts search. For each brand, we found keywords that had a high search volume and low competition that targeted each search intent:

  • Informational
  • Commercial
  • Transactional
  • Navigational

From here, we create a keyword mapping strategy.

A Keyword mapping is the process of assigning a keyword to each page and product. Pages, products, and keywords are also arranged in groups of keyword clusters to create a topical website structure.

Competitor Analysis

Next we dive into competitor analysis. We asked each brand to give us 1 business competitor. From there, we also find 2 search competitors. We take a look at each brand’s domain authority vs their competitors’. We also take a look at backlinks of each brand vs their competitor’s backlinks.

From here, we dive into all the high quality follow backlinks each brand’s competitor has and conduct backlink outreach. Our goal is to increase each brand’s domain authority so that in the long run, it’s easier for each brand to rank for highly competitive keywords.

Within the competitor analysis, we also take a look at each brand’s competitor website and navigation structure, product category structure, and content (blogs). We research their competitor’s top visited blog content to use later for their content strategy as well as what’s their most popular product through organic search.

Content Strategy

Content strategy is the bulk of our SEO Strategy for each brand. Brands B, C, and D had no long form content on their site. Brands E and F have a blog but was very outdated and not optimized for search. Brands A and G had a good amount of content that was receiving organic traffic. However, these brands wanted to add in a strategy to convert visitors either into an email list or into product sales.

We spent 6-7 months with each brand building a content strategy based upon business goals, keyword mapping, competitor research, and search intent. On average, each brand had at least 2 blog posts created for them each month.

Linking Strategy

Linking structure is a way for us to organize each brand’s website that’s best for Google to read and great for visitors to engage with. We dived into each brand’s site structure of each page and product and how they all connected.

Each brand received a sitemap created from scratch and then resubmitted to Google. Many of the brands we worked with did not have an external linking strategy. We created relevant external link strategy for each brand that also resulted in obtaining high quality backlinks in return.

Brands A and G had the most products and content. Their linking strategy involved more of restructuring than starting from scratch.

Technical SEO

SEO Strategy

All brand’s had some technical SEO errors that we initially fixed and kept up with on a monthly basis. These technical SEO fixes include

  • Page speed
  • broken links
  • redirect links
  • URL structure
  • functionality and usability
  • AMP
  • breadcrumbs

and so much more

Global and Local SEO

All brands, except Brand A and Brand E, wanted to organically reach a wider audience in different locations outside their home country. Brand A had brick and mortar locations and needed a local SEO strategy. Brand E, a coaching brand, didn’t want to target users outside of their country nor had any local SEO needs.

When it comes to Global SEO, we first target countries that each brand is already attracting traffic from. Then we analyze what keywords are driving that international traffic. Next we dive into if we need to create content for each brand that needs to be in a different language. For most brands, adding a plugin that would change the language of the site worked best.

Conversion Rate Optimization

Our goal for each brand with SEO, was not only to increase visibility and website traffic, but to also convert that traffic. Conversion for all of our brand clients included:

  • Email signups
  • Digital Downloads
  • Product Sales
  • Lead Contact Form

We break down each brand’s conversion rate optimization strategy into 2 parts:

  • blog conversion strategy
  • product conversion strategy

*We do not offer email optimization services but was recommended for each brand to have.

The Results

Within 12-14 months, in total we helped generated $1m in organic traffic revenue and over 1m in website traffic. Our 8 part SEO Strategy is a monthly retainer service. Each brand stayed with us for a minimum of 10 months. Most brands started seeing organic traffic increases from Google in month 3 and organic sales in month 3-6.

What this means for your brand

All it takes for your business to find success with SEO is to use the right strategy, target the right keywords, and create the right content. To do that, you need the right SEO partner. Keep in mind, each brand is different. We’re going to be honest, we also work with brands that do not see organic sales from Google until the 11 month (consistently working with us). However, once they do, it’s continuous organic revenue, visibility, and traffic from there.

SEO is your 24/hr salesman and it’s playing the long game. We work with forward thinking brands that wants to invest in a long term strategy that will set their business up for global success 3-5 years down the road.
