The Challenge

Alto Designs is run by Becca Wood who is a Squarespace web designer and busines podcaster. Becca reached out to The Marketing Prophet because she wanted to completely rebrand Alto Designs into Beccawood.com but still keep the same 2 passions on her site. As a web designer herself, she knew the basics of SEO but, was having trouble on attracting quality traffic that encompasses people who are interested in website design work and/or finding a new business podcast to subscribe too even though her business podcast had nothing to do with website design. She didn’t want to create a separate website for her podcast where her audiences were different. The Marketing Prophet worked with Becca to devise a good SEO strategy that will help her rebrand still attract the 2 types of visitors without having to create multiple websites.

The Solution

The first thing we did was understand the traffic that was coming to Becca’s website. We noticed that she was attracting organic search traffic but for a keyword with the wrong intent. We completed a full search audit to come up with an SEO Strategy. We asked Becca to provide 2 keywords for each part of her brand her target audience uses to find a brand like hers. We conducted keyword research and competitor analysis and found 2 high search volume keywords with low competition.

We advised Becca, for Google search crawlers to understand the purpose of her website, there has to be a common umbrella theme, or keyword, that all website content will be relevant to. Becca stated her main reason  for her website is to attract clients for Squarespace website design.

We restructured her home landing page and re-wrote her meta description to attract visitors mostly looking for Squarespace website design. We made sure her H1 heading described her website’s main purpose. We then restructured her navigational pages (adjusted link weight as well) to direct website visitors to her Podcast page and business coaching page. We restructured her internal and external linking structure from her home page to other pages on her site.

Becca also had outdated blog posts that didn’t reflect the type of clients she wanted to attract for each topical content of her site. We created 10 blog posts, 5 for website design client attraction and 5 for her podcasts. We also expanded her podcast landing page into sections, one for her podcast information and another for podcast episode transcriptions. This alone helped to add more content to her page for Google to crawl.

The Result

Within 3 months, Becca’s organic search traffic increased by 86% and is ranking for 106 organic keywords.  Organic search represents 12% of her total 90 day traffic and continuing to grow.
